Have an extra day before or after the wedding? Check out http://bayarea.citysearch.com/ If you wake up early (and you should easily be up by 7am, with the 3 hour difference if coming from the East), do the reverse commute and go up to Mir (sp?) Woods (30 minutes North of the Golden Gate Bridge) for a nice little hike through the huge Sequoia trees. Then come back down to Salsalito and eat overlooking the water and SF. You might even be able to take a boat tour from there, or go to Alcatraz. After lunch go back into the city, over the Golden Gate and go right to Fisherman's Warf (5 minutes from going over the bridge). You can drive down the famous Lombard St. (the crooked st.) and park in the Fisherman's Warf area. That evening pick a non-tourist nice restaurant (plan ahead with reservations). There are plenty to choose from or go Chinese Fancy at Tom's Tum's (VERY expensive). Or just do Dim Sum or Chinese in Chinatown. Then stay down in that area and walk Chinatown, or go over to one of the other areas to walk... North Beach, Haight&Ashbury (deadhead area), etc.... After the weding, you could go right from the hotel down to Carmel/Monterey. The 17-mile drive never gets old, you can go to the Monterey Aquarium (a nice one). Then drive up Route 1 to Santa Cruz and hit the boardwalk, or go all the way up the coast to Half Moon Bay and then back over the mountains to the bay area. |
